There are many biased opinions on why on type of tax, like the progressive tax, is better than another, like the flat tax . These opinions are mainly based on a preference towards a specific class of people.
In an article from News Chief.com, a website with updated news that can many people like financial advisors, titled “Pros and Cons of a Flat Tax Rate System”, Joe Mathis and Ben Boychuk talk about the pros and cons of the flat tax and the progressive tax.
“The flat tax is Republican-led class warfare. It makes the rich richer and the poor poorer, for no better purpose than making the rich richer and the poor poorer”.
I agree with the statement presented by the article but I do not support the statement. because yes, the way the flat tax works may cause the rich to be richer and the poor to become poorer, but it is unequal and unfair. The flat tax is an idea of equality that allows people to truly deserve and keep the money they have worked hard and long hours to achieve. The people who have worked their whole life studying in that specific field of work would just get “robbed” by having them taxed higher than the poor, while the poor who have slacked their whole life just get a “free bee” by not having to pay as high of a tax. This may cause the rich to stay rich and the poor to stay poor, but it allows those who have sacrificed and risked everything to be able to keep what they deserve. This passage is very biased against the flat tax because it only views the bad side towards the flat tax.
“We have progressive taxation -- in which people with higher incomes pay a higher tax rate than those at the lower end of the scale -- for a reason: People on the low end are less able to pay. Flat taxes invert that logic, giving the rich a huge tax break and often burdening the poor.”.
I agree with this statement because it is completely true. The rich are left to give up more than those who are less financially stable. The progressive tax causes the people who work hard to give away what they worked so hard to achieve, while those who just live off the success of others get a “discount” during tax season. Yes, the flat tax could be considered immoral when it comes to the fact that for people who are less financially stable, it may seem deadly while it gives a break for the rich, but it allows everyone to pay the same amount and for the U.S. to potentially relieve the countries debt at a faster rate than it would with the progressive tax. This passage in the article is not biased at all because it looks at the viewpoint of both the progressive and flat tax and talks about how the people are affected in both tax and financial situations.
How would the flat tax affect the economy?
Are there any other countries that have the flat tax?
