How does new software effect software developers?

How does the invention of new technology affect software programmers? Well, lets look at some of the software giants that are in the tech industry. We shall start with Microsoft, probably the best known of all of these companies. What does Microsoft do, per say? Microsoft, as it turns out, makes everything from Operating Systems for computers (Windows) to video games (Xbox) to coding software (Microsoft Visual Studio). These are all great examples of software, but how does this effect programmers?

To answer this question, we must look at how many people Microsoft employ. For the time between June 30th, 2013 and June 30th, 2014, Microsoft employs a total of 128,076 people, and has an income of $22,070,000,000. Of the total people who are employed, 49% are under the category of “Engineering”, which can refer to software development, and development of other goods. Software development is huge in Microsoft, as they first and continue to be well known for their software for computers.

With addition of all the new software, Microsoft has had to hire a lot more programmers. This is seen with the development of Windows 10, between 2013 and 2014. Jobs increased, in this one company, by over 20,000 jobs. Such a significant increase in the hiring of computer programmers is a very dependent on new software, but new software does deliver a lot of jobs.
