Does Music Really Benefit Our Development That Much?

  • Briefly explain why you are interested in studying your topic:  This topic is interesting to me because I am deeply committed to music and I encourage young children to get involved in music at their age because I believe it has positive effects on the brain and its functions.

  • The overall question I plan on answering by the end of the project: How and why does music affect the development of children?

  • Sub questions I will need to answer in order to answer the overall question:
What parts of the brain are affected? In order to understand how and why music affects the brain, you first must know which specific parts are stimulated by musical activity. In turn, you can ask what are the effects of music on the brain? I also think it’s important to know whether or not it is beneficial to begin music practices at a younger age or if the effects of music don’t benefit people any more than someone with little to no musical activity.

  • My plan of research (what specific Library Databases, specific websites, names of authors, people, etc. will I pursue to find the answers to the questions above):
Because music affects the psychological aspect of a person’s development, I can research using Psychology Today as a source with articles from various psychologists. I will also cite the APA (American Psychological Association).
