Economic Plan Is a Quandary for Hilary Clinton's Campaign

SUMMARY:
In the article,“Economic Plan is a Quandary for Hilary Clinton’s Campaign” published by the New York Times on February 7, 2015, we learn that Hilary Clinton, a possible candidate for the 2016 presidential election, is having trouble deciding on her financial platform. Being a democrat, Clinton strives to close the gap between the rich and the poor, raise minimum wage and cut taxes for the middle class, but in the past has been criticized for how much money she makes and comments she has made about her wealth. Clinton is known to be a problem-solver and a person who gets things done. She often discusses the economic success that her husband had in his presidency, such as increasing the family median income, but recognizes that with the global economy, new solutions need to be put into place. With the help of her advisors, Hilary Clinton will have to make some tough decisions in the coming year about the possibility of running the White House. With so many economic issues in America’s midst, Clinton will have to get her priorities set in order to have a possibly successful
election.

ANALYSIS:
I think that Hilary Clinton’s priorities are a really good basis for her to be the democratic candidate for the presidency. The things she wants to do sound very beneficial to the U.S. however I think it is critical that she get her platform completely squared away before running, because it is a vital aspect to her campaign that her ideals are concrete and resolute. In the article, the writer described her goals for the economic status of the U.S; which sounded a lot like the goals that President Obama detailed in his State of the Union. I think this is important that these two democrats’ outlooks on economics are similar because then we can ensure that the things they are trying to do, now or in the next presidency, really are important to our nation and can be helpful for the future.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
  1. Do you think Hilary Clinton should decide if she is running for the Presidency before trying to establish her economic platform?
  2. Do you think the changes she wants to make are important? Are there other economic aspects that seem more urgent that don’t have as much attention in politics?

  1. I think she should establish her platform before she announces that she is officially running for president, it will make her campaign a lot easier, and make her a stronger candidate. Other aspects that haven't been touched on yet aren't really important yet because of the fact she hasn't officiated her campaign or established her platform. Once she does that, then other economic aspects will become more important.

  2. I agree that Clinton must prioritize her goals before running as president. It shows something about her abilities as a leader if she can't get her own election organized. If she can't get her own campaign under control, then I question why one should trust her to make important decisions for a country.
